Italy's cyber agency counts 2,171 cyber events in the first half of 2026

Italy's National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) recorded 2,171 cyber events in the first half of 2026, up 47% on a year earlier, including 1,072 incidents with a confirmed impact. The agency says the rise is partly due to wider reporting since the NIS2 rules took effect, so it does not mean threats grew in the same proportion. Ransomware cases fell 12% to 181 and DDoS attacks fell 32% to 407, while attacks involving stolen credentials, exposed data and exploited vulnerabilities rose.
